July 27th, 2008 - Glen Meakem on the Indian Opportunity

Glen at the Tomb of Humayun, second Mughal Emperor after Babar. This week on the Glen Meakem Program, Glen discusses his op-ed piece in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette called “The Steelers and the status quo“, about how we can save attractions like the Steelers by voting for pro-growth policies. Glen also shares a story about his first trip to India, and how the country has spurred incredible growth by rejecting socialism. Glen concludes that we could be nearing a potential milestone in India-America relations.

Glen is then joined by Jay Richards, Executive Producer of “The Call of the Entrepreneur.” Glen and Jay discuss the stereotypes surrounding entrepreneurship, and how government must encourage the risks that entrepreneurs take, rather than penalize them.

Next, Glen responds to some listener mail, and answers a difficult question about how candid we should be when discussing politics in the workplace.

Glen then talks with Dr. Titus Galama, PhD, of the RAND Corporation, about the state of U.S. science and how it compares to the rest of the world. Glen concludes that, though America’s position is strong, there are too many barriers for technically skilled immigrants, and that Congress doesn’t understand the economics of the situation.

Glen also talks about the Democrats’ decision to block states from deciding whether or not to drill offshore, and why 2007’s record number of births shows that Americans are looking to the future.
