August 16th, 2008 - Glen Meakem on Neo-Conservatism, the Olympics, and the War in Georgia
This week, I interview Ben J. Wattenberg, Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and author of “Fighting Words: A Tale of How Liberals Created Neo-Conservatism.” Ben and I discuss the history of Neo-Conservatism, and how the word has been tarnished by recent events.
Then, I list some of the many reasons the Olympics have given me to be Proud of America. First, because of Nastia Liuken, American gold medal-winning gymnast, and daughter of former Soviet Olympian Valerie Liuken. Nastia is an example of America’s ability to attract the best and the brightest. Second, because of Michael Phelps’ historic achievement, and the U.S. men’s swimming team victorious response to the French team’s taunting.
Finally, I discuss the life and beliefs of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, and the embarrassment to the Left that his life represents. I also break down the history of the conflict between Russia and Georgia: why Russia’s response was clearly premeditated, and why the G8 should become the G7 by removing Russia.
