August 23rd, 2008 - Glen Meakem on Ethanol and Obama’s Tax Proposals
This week, I interview Ken Green, Resident Scholar and author at the American Enterprise Institute. We discuss Ken’s new article, “The Ethanol Delusion,” in which he summarizes the problems with current corn-based and other cellulosic ethanol production in this country. Ken concludes that ethanol is inefficient, will not save the planet, is not environmentally friendly, does not meet our current energy needs, and most importantly is creating starvation in poor countries.
I also examine Senator Barack Obama’s tax proposals which explicitly take more money from “the rich” and give more money to lower income people. Obama proposes to push top income tax rates to over 50 cents on the dollar. To explain why this is not fair and does not work, I discuss the REAL Robin Hood, and retell Ronald Reagan’s famous story of “The Modern Little Red Hen.”
Finally, I answer two business questions emailed in by listeners and share a “Proud of America” moment created by Dara Torres at the Beijing Olympics.
