Senator Tom Coburn (R – OK) is one of only two Medical Doctors (M.D.) currently serving in the U.S. Senate.  The other is John Barrasso (R -WY).  Both oppose the health care legislation currently being considered by the U.S. Congress.

Senator Coburn wrote a great article in response to the fact that many politicians involved in writing the House and Senate healthcare reform bills  “refuse to answer basic questions about how it will be paid for and how it will affect patients.”  The article is titled “Ten Questions Politicians Won’t Answer,” and is published in National Review Online, August 10, 2009.
