This week, I begin the program by commenting on some recent headlines. One piece of good news is that both the House and the Senate finally voted this week to
remove tax-payer funding from ACORN – the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
Last October, I called for all tax-payer funding to be withdrawn from this group of organizations, after numerous ACORN employees in several states were convicted of voter registration fraud.
This past week, more ACORN employees were either indicted or convicted of voter registration fraud and an investigative journalist released numerous videos of ACORN employees offering advice on how to set up and manage a brothel with underage girls smuggled into America from poor countries. Congress should have acted a year ago, but the unethical, amoral and illegal nature of some ACORN activities finally left even our left-wing dominated Congress with no choice.
The bad news is that the piece of legislation that defunded ACORN also forces private lenders out of the business of providing college loans. I do not know why the liberal, “progressive” Democrats wanted to expand government into this sphere because colleges and universities are now scared they will face a liquidity crisis in the fall of 2010 when government workers and information systems fail to keep up with demand for student loans. Just think about the same people who administered cash-for-clunkers administering your child’s student loans! Just wait to hear the screams of outrage when colleges, universities and students fail to receive loan money on time! Perhaps this is good news after all because it will be a first-hand “teaching moment” for young liberals on college campuses to learn that government does not do things well and cannot be trusted. Other bad news is that the Obama administration and Democratic Party members in Congress continue to force their liberal, “progressive” policies on all of us. In the foreign policy arena, President Obama has decided to allow both Iran and North Korea to develop and grow nuclear weapons arsenals. The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency released a report confirming that the Islamic dictatorship in Iran now has the expertise they need to build nuclear bombs. Despite this revelation, President Obama continued to ignore the situation, making it clear that the United States will do nothing to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. While my knowledge only comes from public sources, I can also tell you that there is no way that Israel can accomplish the mission of destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons capability. Iran’s nuclear facilities are spread across many sites, with some underground and others built in the middle of populated urban areas so as to maximize the number of unwitting “human shields.” A four to six week air war – not one or two bombing runs — would be required to successfully destroy Iran’s capability. Israel simply does not have the military resources necessary to mount this kind of air war. So now we know it is the Obama Administration’s intention to allow the Islamic totalitarian Iran to arm itself with nuclear bombs and missiles to deliver them. So does the Administration at least push missile defense for us and our allies forward? No, Instead of increasing security for the United States and our allies, Obama announced that he will scrap the missile defense deal made with Poland and the Czech Republic under President Bush. This amounts to appeasement of both Russia and Iran and an abandonment of our two strongest allies in Eastern Europe. This is the polar opposite of what Ronald Reagan would have done in this situation. If the current administration continues to implement such naïve and destructive policies, we all will live in a much less stable and much more dangerous world. Liberals have chosen to ignore and marginalize the more than
one million Americans who descended on Washington D.C. one week ago to protest a rapidly growing government, increasing taxes, weak defense and government run healthcare. Instead of listening and acknowledging our fears, Democrat Nancy Pelosi claims that there will be violence if opponents of “ObamaCare” refuse to tone down their rhetoric. Of course, several weeks ago, Pelosi erroneously stated that townhall protestors were carrying swastikas, and her Democratic colleague, Senator Harry Reid called all townhall protestors “evilmongers.” Perhaps Pelosi (and other Democrats in Congress) should heed her own advice and accept the fact that the majority of Americans want a limited government that defends our rights and freedoms, not an expanding government that dominates every aspect of our lives from the energy we use in our homes to the health care we choose for our bodies.
Sara Mohsin joins me this week in the studio to bring us up to date on mortgage rates and the national housing market. The bottom line is that home buyers can still make use of historically low interest rates (4.75%), and first time homebuyers are eligible for HUD loans that require only 5% down. If you have any interest in purchasing a home, you can give Sara and her team a call at 800-662-9550 or visit them online at

Desmond Lachman, economist and Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, also joins me on the program to discuss his recent article, “
Notes on the Great Recession: Tough Sledding for the U.S. economy.” Desmond suggests that due to natural inventory cycles and extremely loose monetary policy, there will be some economic growth throughout the remainder of this year. However, unlike Brian Wesbury (who appeared on this program
two weeks ago), Desmond sees the economy once again stagnating, or even contracting further in 2010. He points to a very high unemployment rate, decelerating household income, average household debt of 135% of yearly income, and the continued destruction of home values as reasons for his pessimism. Mike Cob, Entrepreneur, CEO and cofounder of Gran Pacifica is an entrepreneur who develops land in Central America. He is facing many challenges, but despite the challenging economic conditions and destructive policies coming out of Washington, Mike is still creating opportunities for himself and his family. Mike’s positive personality should remind all of us to keep up the fight! We must keep the pressure on Washington D.C. I will be speaking at another tea party event in Cadiz, Ohio on Saturday, October 10th. The event begins at noon (I’ll provide more details as they become available). Please continue to attend these events; and continue to call, send post cards, and send emails to your Senators and Representatives. Keep telling them to vote against Cap and Trade, against a government takeover of healthcare, against a government takeover of student loans, against higher taxes, and against increased spending. Together, we are making a difference.
