A world without nuclear weapons?
With the gathering of world leaders at both the G-20 summit and the United Nations general assembly, this has been a busy news week. Instead of using this opportunity to reaffirm policies that have kept the U.S. safe from foreign attacks since 9-11, President Obama instead promoted his “new” defense policies that reflect a pre 9-11 mentality. This included his dangerous nuclear non-proliferation agenda that is based on a seemingly naïve understanding of how the world works. In order to demonstrate his sincerity, President Obama reiterated his pledge to reduce America’s arsenal of nuclear weapons. While world leaders applauded Obama’s address, Iran revealed to the International Atomic Energy Agency that it is building a second (secret) uranium enrichment plant for making nuclear fuel. In spite of Obama’s willingness to meet with Ahmadinejad without preconditions, Iran continues to hide its nuclear program from UN inspectors. Meanwhile, the Vice President of Brazil, announced that he believes his country should develop nuclear weapon technology in order to protect against foreign attacks. So much for a world without nuclear weapons.
