July 17-18 – The unpopular liberal agenda

Congressman Tim Murphy joined me on the program this past weekend with thoughts on the Democrats’ destructive liberal agenda, and on the GOP chances of taking back the U.S. House this coming November.Tim believes one key reason the majority of American voters rejected Republicans in 2008 was that under George Bush’s leadership government spending increased too much, the U.S. government became too large and our national debt swelled to $8 trillion. Republicans could no longer be trusted as the Party of limited, responsible government.
President Obama campaigned with the slogan of “change,” but the change he has brought is a severe lurch to the statist political “Left.” Now we are all trying to live our lives despite enormous increases in the size and power of government, and despite looming tax increases on all working Americans.
Annual deficits under Obama and the Democrats are now running at $1.5 trillion for the foreseeable future and our national debt has now surpassed $13 trillion. Yes, the United States will run up as much debt in the four years of the Obama Administration as it did in its previous 232 years.
With the seizure of banks, insurance companies, and auto manufacturers, the cancellation of the bi-partisan 1990s welfare reform, and the pending nationalization of health care, the Democrats (in the honest and now famous words of Rom Emmanuel) “did not let a good crisis go to waste.”
Despite the pain of seeing America’s future in severe jeopardy, at least Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and their Democrat Party have shown us their true anti-liberty, socialist cards. And a revolt at the ballot box by the conservative, pro-liberty, pro-responsibility majority of Americans is building. Tim encouraged all of us to keep calling our Congress people and Senators to tell them we oppose the Democrat’s liberal tax, borrow and redistribute agenda.
I also spent some time discussing the Department of Justice’s decision to throw out the voter intimidation conviction against King Samir Shabazz, the leader of the Philadelphia Chapter of the New Black Panthers. In a separate incident, Shabazz publicly condoned the killing of white people and white babies. In America, we need people to stand together against this type of racism and to embrace Martin Luther King Junior’s dream of a country where people are not “judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” I know this is a sensitive topic, but we need to have this discussion today.
I hope you are finding time to enjoy yourself and your family this summer. I am enjoying some time with my family this week, but will be back on the radio next weekend. Have a great week!
