Blue Collar Senator
Blue Collar Commentary
With Dale McCoy
I am seriously considering running for United States Senator. My top qualification is that I really don’t want the job. In addition to this, I have no political experience, no money to work with, and no campaign staff. If elected, I promise to work hard against legislation, and I will avoid working with regulatory agencies as much as possible. I will refuse to remain steadfast in my beliefs, and I’ll do my best to turn our current political system on its head.
This is not a satirical commentary. It is my sincere hope that you will consider voting for me. Let me explain the opening paragraph:
“I really don’t want the job”
I have no thirst for money or power, and I fully understand that making hard decisions is a thankless job. What’s more, I don’t like the idea of moving to Washington DC. I am very much a small town boy who would rather stay here in Pennsylvania and live my life as I see fit. But I can’t. I have been taxed and regulated into a corner and it is time to fight back. I abhor the idea of spending six years surrounded by professional politicians, however, I cannot think of a better position to fight from. If elected, I will serve for one term only.
“I have no political experience”
Experienced politicians are ill suited to making tough decisions. It shortens their careers. My experience comes from a lifetime as a working man, taxpayer, husband, and father. I don’t study the average man’s concerns, I live them. I am tired of watching “experienced” politicians spend our money to buy votes from irresponsible people, and I’m equally tired of watching these same people exempt themselves from the burdens that they foist upon the rest of us. I think it is time to add a little blue collar experience to the US Senate.
I have “no money to work with”
I’m not asking for money, I’m asking for votes. One of the biggest problems with our political system is the corruptive influence of big money. Elected positions are bought, and those in power are beholden to their largest donors. I am beholden to no-one, and I like it this way. In this modern information age, where a You-tube video can go viral in a matter of hours, I believe that the right candidate can gain sufficient support without spending a fortune. Proving that a Senator can be elected using the internet, free media, and word of mouth would vastly improve our political system. As it stands right now, money talks way too loud.
I have “no campaign staff”
I believe in honesty and straight talk, and I will not work with professional manipulators who teach political correctness. I prefer to have a group of grassroots volunteers with whom I can discuss strategy and policy. There is a wealth of knowledge and ability among the voting public. I will ask for help from the best and brightest among them.
“I promise to work hard against legislation”
The United States Congress has been crafting laws for over 200 years, yet our society continues to decay. Crime is rampant and morality is scarce. Fairness, decency, and social justice cannot be legislated, and countless volumes of contradictory laws are the antithesis of freedom. It is time to work on removing legislation, not adding it.
“I will avoid working with regulatory agencies as much as possible”
Regulatory agencies and the un-elected government employees who run them are out of control. Regulations, though necessary, must be kept to a minimum. Freedom depends on a responsible and self reliant citizenry, not an overbearing bureaucracy. For the most part, I will be working against the regulators, not with them.
“I refuse to remain steadfast in my beliefs”
There are no easy answers and no perfect solutions. I am not so narcissistic as to believe that my way is the only way. Our constitution and our country were created through the willingness of reasonable men to accept compromise. And compromise is the key to our survival.
“I will do my best to turn our current political system on its head”
Too many of our elected officials are bought and paid for, and too many are nothing more than puppets for their party. Is it possible that a common blue collar worker can be elected directly to high office? I believe that In the United States of America, anything is possible. If we can accomplish this, or even come anywhere close, we will indeed turn the political world upside down.
Over the past 40 years, I have watched “experienced” politicians run our country, “experts” regulate our economy, and “intellectuals” dictate public policy. I am disgusted with the results. I think it is time for an average working man to inject a little common sense and humility into the political class. I hope to be given this chance, and I pray that I am up to the task. The campaign starts right here at my keyboard. My thoughts have been, and will continue to be, recorded here in the Blue Collar Commentary. What better way to present transparency to the public? Reading “An Open Letter” and “Random Thoughts and Favorite Quotes” will give everyone a pretty good idea of who I am and how I think. Upcoming commentaries will focus on the tough issues facing our country. I want everyone to know exactly where I stand. And rest assured, I will not be standing on the fence.
I’m looking forward to your questions and comments.
Dale

If Jesse Venture did it, I think you have a good chance!
You obviously have my vote!
Thanks Ryan! That is exactly the kind of optimism that I need.
Put me on the grass roots volunteer list. You have my vote!!!
If I lived in PA, I’d vote for you!
What’s it take to become a sublime exponuedr of prose like yourself?
Its your right and DUTY to get involved in the political process and that is what made America great, citizens serving their country as legislators for a brief time before returning to their chosen line of work. I wish you all the best, I don’t always agree with you politically (although we are getting closer to agreeing all the time) but I respect your passion and desire to get involved to make things better. Best to you my friend, I’ll do all I can to help and support your campaign.
Go Dale! You’ve got my vote any my help.
Which party? If it’s democrat I can’t publicly help. If Republican I can. It would be tough but not unsurmountable. I really want someone to challenge John Pippy and Tim Murphy.
I want Someone to challenge Sen. Bob Casey
I will refuse to remain steadfast in my beliefs, and I’ll do my best to turn our current political system on its head.
I think you mean
I will remain steadfast in my beliefs, and I’ll do my best to turn our current political system on its head.
WOW, Way to go Dale. I’ll even change my party affiliation so I can vote for you in the primary. I know from personal experience that you will blow their socks off.
Janet
DALE, Congradulations my man…I can’t think of a better person to run for office than you!! Whatever I can do to help I am here for you!!
What makes you a good choice for the senator race is that you’re a concerned citizen, not a politician; it’s not the man but what inside the man which makes the difference. You have all the right personal properties like loyalty, honesty and integrity, things that our present politicians lack. Good luck Dale
Run Dale RunI
I wish you well. Go get ‘em!
Dude, let me know how to help. I want the first yard sign to put up since I live a busy highway. You will definitely shake up the town when you get to DC!
Obviously career politicians don’t have an interest in saving America. You should run. I think you will get more votes than you think. Maybe it will create an avalanche of citizen leaders.
Great article, to bad you would have to work in a process that is already so corrupt. What you say is great, how you would actually accomplish it once there is a different story. We need more people like this to make a difference and actually see change. It’s the right attitude!!
Should I start spreading the word? Never underestimate the power of the internet.
a breath of fresh air. I especially like the line ” i don’t want the job”. You can”t sell your soul to do something you didn’t want to do in the first place.
Great comments, its what we need in DC. You have my vote.
I can’t imagine anyone not wanting this type of person running for office. All of my life I’ve heard the comment “If only common folks or average Joe’s were in power, things would be different”. Why not? And why not NOW. I cannot think of a better way to open the floodgate of opportunity than for just one “average man” with solid character and conviction, not corrupted by the very system that he would be working in, to begin the mass exodus of the same old that we have been led to believe is the best America has to offer. Think about it. A politician not bought and paid for, not owned, and not directed by anyone other than the people whom elected him. If one drop of water breaks through the dam surrounding Washington, then how fast the flood? GO DALE!
Right on Dale!
Dale – you are a good man and I admire your willingness to not just talk the talk but to walk the walk!!
I think you will do well because I beleive that you are reasonable and will find compromise and civility. Regarding quotes, consider these – “The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” or “We don’t have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven’t taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much”
Dale,
You have my support, you have my Vote, and you have my voluntary help.
I especially liked your comments on “The Regulators” and “I promise to work hard against legislation”. I don’t know where I heard the following quote – I tried to find it on the internet and couldn’t – but I’ll paraphrase it:
“Air conditioning ruined America. Before air conditioning Congress typically only meet between December and March – Washington was to hot humid during the summer! Once air conditioning was installed in 1928 Congress meet more and more frequently until it became a year round industry”. Less time = less legislation = Good for America.
You are obviously fighting an uphill battle, but I say take a chance. Columbus did.
Give it a shot–but do not limit yourself to 2 years
Be careful the press will go after not only you but your family as well.
Dale,
You have my vote, my contribution and my help. I know you and know your words are not smoke and mirrors and are from the heart. Good luck in whatever you decide and thanks for making a difference.
Dale, I am sure that i can help you to round up as many votes as possible. Let me know what i can do. Terry
